Dr Kristina Hulme

Veterinarian – BSc BVSc(hons)

Special interest in dermatology, surgery, feline medicine.

I graduated from the University of Melbourne with Honours and embarked on a career in small animal practice that took me from regional Victoria to the bustling city of London, then back to Melbourne again. I founded Northcote Animal Hospital in 2013 and am passionate about providing compassionate, high-quality care for pets and their families.

Living locally, I take pride in leading a dedicated team that strives to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for both animals and their owners. With extensive experience treating small animals of all breeds and ages, I focus on managing their health and wellbeing with a personal touch. I have a particular interest in dermatology—especially resolving challenging skin and ear issues—and enjoy caring for our senior pets to ensure they live happy, comfortable lives.

I believe in a gentle, collaborative approach and aim to make every visit positive and reassuring. As part of an inclusive community, I am proud to support diversity within our practice. If you have any feedback or questions about our work, please don’t hesitate to reach out via our wonderful reception team—I’m always eager to find ways to improve how we care for our community.

Dr Harry Ellsmore

Veterinarian

Special interest in animal dentistry.

My qualifications include a Bachelor in Veterinary Science (Hons) from the University of Sydney (2005) and a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh (1999). I began my career in private small animal practices, where I spent nine years honing my skills. Following that, I transitioned to a large not-for-profit animal hospital which received a lot of complex referrals with a very diverse caseload. This enabled me to develop more advanced veterinary skills. Although a lot of my work was in emergency and critical care, the part I enjoyed most was in the area of dentistry and preventative care. I believe that maintaining a pet’s dental health is a lifelong commitment that significantly impacts their overall well-being. The core of what I do is to improve and maintain the welfare of my patients. Every pet under my care has a right to a pain free and low stress life. I take my time to listen to a pet owner’s concerns and limitations as I have found this is the most successful path to formulating an effective treatment plan to improve the well being of their pets. I am particularly driven to address dental disease, a prevalent issue affecting many adult dogs.

I love working for an organisation with excellent standards of care just a short bike ride from home. I enjoy bringing the benefits of my experience to my own community. Outside of work, I love to spend time fixing things (DIY) and cooking.

Dr Maddison Leaver

Veterinarian

Special interests: Feline medicine, and canine and feline internal medicine.

Graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2018, I began my veterinary career in a busy 24-hour emergency and general practice clinic. This initial role allowed me to rapidly develop a diverse skill set across various medical scenarios. Driven by my passion for small animal internal medicine, I pursued a focused internship at a specialist hospital in Melbourne in 2020-2021. The valuable experience and further dedicated study culminated in successfully achieving membership in Small Animal Internal Medicine with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2022.

Before joining the wonderful team at nOah, I spent three enriching years in general practice, blending comprehensive GP skills with my special interests in internal and feline medicine. I strongly believe that veterinary medicine should always center on personalised care plans tailored specifically to each patient and their family. It’s not just about medical interventions; it’s about collaboration, communication, and fostering long-term relationships to achieve the best possible quality of life for all family members—furred and unfurred alike.

Working at nOah has been particularly rewarding due to the community’s dedication and deep commitment to their pets, which resonates deeply with my professional values. Being part of such a collaborative and passionate team is truly a privilege.

Outside of work, you’ll find me exploring Melbourne’s hidden creek paths on my bike, discovering the city’s finest patisseries, or enjoying quiet moments curled up with a coffee, a good book, and my beloved cats.
